My baby is teething? HELP

by Kimberly Schoobaar To December 26, 2020

One of the first milestones in your baby's life. His first teeth. It can be very painful and no object in the house is safe from your baby's teething. Don't panic. I'm going to tell you a little more about it.

When are the first teeth coming?

Every baby grows at a different rhythm of development. Some babies are a little later and others a little earlier. This is quite normal. Here you have a small schedule of the average baby:

4-7 months: The first teeth come through. Usually these are the two central incisors in the lower jaw.

8-12 months: The two central teeth in the upper jaw next to the central incisors come through. Both upper and lower.

9-16 months: The four teeth to the left and right next to the central incisors come through. Both above and below.

13-19 months: The front molars emerge on the left and right in both jaws.

16-22 months: The four canines appear between the first molars and incisors.

20-33 months: The four molars behind the front molars come barren. In other words, the back molars in the milk teeth.

Around 3 years:  Finally, a mature milk teeth with a total of 20 teeth.

Symptoms of baby teething

Every baby experiences teething differently. Some have more pain than others. The pain also varies from tooth to tooth. Here are the most common symptoms:

  • Crying
  • Drooling
  • More affectionate
  • Irritable
  • Difficulty falling asleep
  • Diaper rash

 Tips for teething

As you can see, there are quite a few annoying symptoms for your child when they are teething. Of course, we have some tips for that:

  • Freeze small drops of baby food. Once these have hardened, your baby can chew and suck on them. This way your baby has some sedation and also gets nutrition this way.
  • Give your little one something to bite on. What is very useful are (cooling) teething rings. These teething rings stimulate your baby's irritated gums. You can refrigerate this ring so that it has a numbing effect.
  • Give your baby some extra attention and love.
  • Massage the gums with a cold finger.
  • Give your child something cold to drink or eat, such as yogurt and chilled pureed fruit.

Brushing first teeth

Brush your child's teeth once a day with an appropriate toothbrush. This silicone toothbrush is for little ones from 12-24 months. It is the perfect toothbrush for when the front teeth come through and the little one wants to hold it himself. The toothbrush has a safety ring so the brush can never go too far into your child's mouth. What is also very convenient is the finger toothbrush. This toothbrush is made for babies from 6 to 12 months. It is a safe and hygienic way to brush your baby's first teeth. You should also use special toothpaste for your baby. This toothpaste is made for babies 6 months and older. They swallow the toothpaste more than they spit it out. With this natural toothpaste you can do that safely. What is also convenient are the Biodegradable cups. They are ideal for storing items such as toothbrushes and toothpastes.
